“You don’t write a novel out of sheer pity any more than you blow a safe out of a vague longing to be rich. A certain ruthlessness and a sense of alienation from society is as essential to creative writing as it is to armed robbery.” ― Nelson Algren, Nonconformity: Writing on Writing

“Grief is not a feeling it is a capacity. It is not something that disables you, we are not on the receiving end of grief we are on the practising end of grief.” ― Stephen Jenkinson, Die Wise: A Manifesto for Sanity and Soul
Why do we have such an aversion to talking about death and dying?
A bit of Bukowski www.steelsnowflake.org/post/buko…
How many unread books do you have on Kindle?
I am into week #3 of my part-time, in-house legal job. It’s less stressful than working at my last employer – a behemoth of a company (c. £16 billion t/o). The people are nice and the atmosphere is relaxed but I do need to keep trying to push the envelope of what is BAU vs. what we need to do going forward. It would be wrong to say I’m excited but it will be nice to see how things develop over the coming months.
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” ― Frank Herbert, Dune
I shall get out for a walk shortly. Tis bootiful outside, which makes for a stark contrast to the biblical rain we’ve had these past couple of days.
It always feels odd when the dogs aren’t home. Daughter #3 has them today.

“The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. No, the true measure of a man is this: how quickly can he respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give.” ― Philip K. Dick

“I can tell you that solitude Is not all exaltation, inner space Where the soul breathes and work can be done. Solitude exposes the nerve, Raises up ghosts. The past, never at rest, flows through it.” ― May Sarton
“An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.” ― Winston S. Churchill
I just saw Steve Bannon make a Nazi salute on the Guardian feed. What is the world coming to?
It’s been nice to be accepted as a bereavement listener at our local hospice. The course has been vital to my healing and well-being.
